Top Seven Must-Haves For Surviving the First Three Months

There are a few basics all parents know they need: a safe place for your bubs to sleep, a car seat, and loads of nappies. But apart from these newborn baby essentials, there are a just a few other items we think every new mum and her bubs will appreciate having around the home.

For everyone: Pre-made snacks and meals

You’ve likely heard it before, and we cannot agree more: now is the time to stock up on pre-made meals and nutritious easy-to-grab snacks! Whether you prepare your meals yourself or buy some pre-packaged options when on sale at the market, you’ll be glad you have them on hand.

Bonus tip: Throw a loaf or two of bread in the freezer if there’s space. When all else fails, there will always be the option of making a quick sandwich.

For breastfeeding: Nursing bras

Having a few high-quality nursing bras with a bit of stretch and no underwire is essential if you plan on breastfeeding your bubs. The Peachymama nursing bra is crafted from an incredibly soft bamboo wicking material that is so comfortable that you can even wear it to bed!

For all feeding: Burp Cloths

When packing your nappy bag, consider including useful items, like:

  • A waterproof change pad
  • A change of clothes for baby
  • A light sweater or blanket for baby
  • Toys
  • Bottles (if you are bottle feeding)

For bathing: Gentle baby wash

There are a number of wash products designed specifically for the tender skin of your little one, so choose one which you find easy to use and which has been proven to be safe for babies. The best are scent-free, mild, and contain as few chemicals and additives as possible.

For comfort: A wrap or sling

Studies continue to show the importance of holding your baby for their development. Not only will a wrap or sling keep your baby close while keeping your hands free for other tasks, but the warmth from your body, your smell, and the beating of your heart will soothe them and keep them calm.

The best sling or wrap is one that you find easy to use and one which promotes the healthy development of your baby. Take the time to explore your different options and focus on how comfortable it will be for both you and your bubs.

For getting around: A stroller

The bulk of today’s strollers are designed with baby’s growth in mind, having the ability to recline almost completely flat (this is a must-have feature for babies who are three months or younger) to being propped completely upright.

If you can find a stroller you can snap your infant car seat into, all the better. This type of stroller will allow you to get around and finish up tasks with minimal disruption to your baby.
