Breastfeeding Support Organisations: Tresillian

Did you know that 96% of Australian mums initiate breastfeeding, but only 15% are still breastfeeding when their baby is less than 6 months of age? One of the reasons why mums often stop breastfeeding is because they do not have enough or the right kind of support.

Australia is home to many of the world’s leading breastfeeding support organisations.Tresillian is one of these organisations and they are helping tens of thousands of families confidently face the many challenges of parenting every single year.

Who Is Tresillian?

Tresillian is a not for profit organisation which offers early parenting guidance and access to parenting resources across Australia. Close to 80,000 families are helped by their services designed to educate, engage and support families of babies, toddlers and young children.

The organisation holds true to its purpose statement, “It’s in our nature to nurture” by being one of the most accessible and committed parenting organisations in the modern world. They offer a number of services including:

  • Day Stay
  • Outreach
  • Residential stay
  • Parenting Programs
  • Long Day Care

Who Supports Tresillian?

Tresillian is supported by donations which can be made by anyone and are fully tax deductible. Every single dollar donated helps provide families with important services many parents have said are “life changing”.

Why Is It Important To Support Breastfeeding

  • Breastfeeding takes time, practice and a lot of support. It is beneficial for mum and baby, having the ability to reduce the risk of chronic disease for both.
  • Breastmilk is the safest and most nutrient-rich food available for your baby, and can provide her with lifelong health benefits.
  • Breastfeeding enhances bonding as well as the emotional and social development of babies and children.
  • Breastfeeding improves the overall health of the community.

Organisations like Tresillian have numerous resources to help parents feel supported while breastfeeding. But there are many others who can support mothers and babies, such as partners, fathers, friends, and employers.
