Tech Hacks for Busy Mums

Tech Hacks for Busy Mums

All mums are busy, and there’s no doubt about it, so whether you’re a full-time worker, full-time stay at home mum, or a little bit of both, when you hear about a new way to save yourself time or hassle, you’re usually all ears. Thanks to the wonder of modern technology, there are now more ways than ever to ease the burdens placed on the modern mother, and we’ve compiled them all in a handy list to save you even more time.

Gmail

There isn’t much this innovative tech company can’t do, which is why the busy mum should put her trust in Google’s email service, Gmail. Gmail is ideal for those times when you have a momentary lapse in judgement, which is pretty common for mums on the go. This email provider has great features like an Undo button that lets you recall an email for up to 30 seconds or a notification that tells you if you were meant to attach a document to an email and forgot. Genius!

Voice to Text

If you haven’t already joined the voice to text revolution, today is the day to start. Although some of us have become expert at crafting a text one-handed while cutting up snacks or holding a breastfeeding baby with the other, you can make it even easier for yourself by using this feature on your phone. Look for the microphone symbol next to the text box in your iPhone which can convert your speech to text, or simply send a voice note direct.

Breastfeeding Apps

Especially in the first few months of breastfeeding, keeping track of feed times and which side you last nursed from can be a chore. One of the best things about being a mum in these modern times is breastfeeding apps, offering a way to time feeds, records which side you most recently nursed from, and get a clear view of everything your baby is doing from naps to nappy changes.

Yummly

If you’re like most mums, you’ll find many days at 5.30pm you’re scrambling around the kitchen trying to figure out what’s on the menu for dinner tonight. The Yummly app is one of the most popular recipe apps worldwide, and it has thousands of recipes on hand. Best of all, Yummly lets you put in a few key ingredients that you have lying around and shows you all the culinary creations you can make with them.

Toilet Map Apps

If you’ve ever been caught out in public with a desperate need for the toilet, whether it’s for you or the kids, you’ll find these apps heaven-sent. There are plenty of apps now available that show you anywhere in Australia (or the world) where your nearest public toilet is, so you can get fast relief when you need it.

Period Trackers

The last thing you have time for as a mum is remembering when your last period was, so whether you’re trying to conceive another bub or doing everything in your power not to, using a period tracking app can be the easiest way to do it. These helpful apps send notifications about when to expect your next cycle, and even when your fertile periods are coming up.

Online Shopping Apps

Both Coles and Woolworths now have dedicated online shopping apps, which makes it even easier to get the weekly grocery shop done. Simply add to your cart through the week as needed, or set a default shopping list that you can use every week for simplicity. You can have orders delivered straight to your door for a small fee or swing by and pick up it for free, whatever suits your busy schedule and budget.

Nike Training Club

Gone are the days when you had ample time to attend fitness classes and workout sessions, but apps like the Nike Training Club are here to help. These apps can give you a workout wherever you are, for as many minutes as you can spare, so there’s no need to give up on a healthier lifestyle just because you became a mum.

Audio Books

These nifty books are getting a revival, with plenty of new places to download the latest and greatest books in audio form. Through these apps, you can download a book straight to your smartphone or iPod, so you don’t have to give up on your love for literature, even if that means getting a few chapters in while you fold the washing or drive to work.

Get With the Times

There’s no point struggling with the old ways when you have so many helpful apps and tech available nowadays. Whether you want to keep fit, whip up an easy meal, or craft the perfect work email with ease, let technology give you a helping hand.
